The H-PASS EU project—Health Professionals and the DigitAl team SkillS advancement—is making significant strides in equipping healthcare professionals across Europe with the critical digital and transversal skills needed to navigate the rapidly changing healthcare landscape. The project, in which the University of Crete (UOC) participates as a key partner, is focused on overcoming the challenges posed by skills mismatches within health service teams. By providing targeted training, H-PASS aims to develop resilience in healthcare professionals and support the integration of digital technologies in healthcare systems.
The core of the H-PASS initiative lies in its blended learning-based educational program, designed to enhance both digital literacy and transversal skills. This program includes a combination of synchronous online sessions and asynchronous e-learning activities—a flexible learning model that ensures accessibility for busy healthcare professionals.
The first phase of the training, delivered in English, was successfully tested between November 2024 and January 2025, providing a foundational model that has now been adapted into local language versions. The Greek-language pilot training is the next important step in this process, with its official launch on April 7, 2025.
The Greek-language version of the H-PASS training is delivered by a dedicated team at the University of Crete (UOC). The team includes Dr. Maria Marketou, Associate Professor of Cardiology and Course Director, alongside Dr. Ioannis Anastasiou, MD, Dr. Konstantinos Fragkiadakis, MD, and Dr. Ioanna Kontaraki, PhD, Molecular Biologist. With the help of Mrs. Maria Pateraki providing secretarial support and Professor Georgios Kochiadakis serving on the organizing committee, this dedicated team is leading the way in providing high-quality education to healthcare professionals.
The training is open to healthcare professionals in Greece, including doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, and physiotherapists—irrespective of specialty, postgraduate education, or academic title. Participants must have Greek as their native language and practice in Greece. Currently, 95 healthcare professionals have enrolled in the program, with 61% of participants being nurses, 28% physicians, and the remaining 11% representing other healthcare specialties.
The pilot training is structured into four main modules that will run through the year:
Module 1: Leading Digital Transformation
Dates: 7th April – 4th May 2025

Module 2: Communication, Teams, and Culture in the Digital Era

In addition to the core modules, the training also includes a short module on Virtual Reality (VR) technology. Participants will have the option to attend either in person at the Medical School of the University of Crete (June-July 2025) or engage in the asynchronous online version.
The total duration of the training is 40 hours per participant. This includes:
27 hours of asynchronous e-learning activities.
1 hour of VR training, either in-person or online.
12 hours of synchronous online sessions.
The H-PASS Greek pilot is set to provide healthcare professionals with the essential tools and knowledge needed to thrive in the digital healthcare environment, ensuring they are ready to embrace the evolving challenges of the industry.
The delivery of the Greek-language pilot marks an exciting milestone in the H-PASS project’s journey to advance digital maturity and digital literacy among healthcare professionals in Europe. As we continue to refine and expand the program across different languages and countries, we remain committed to creating a resilient, adaptable, and skilled healthcare workforce prepared for the future.
