By Zoltán Cserháti, Scientific Leader of the H-PASS Project

As the H-PASS project marks its second anniversary, it’s the perfect moment to pause and reflect on how far we’ve come — and where we are heading next.

When we began this journey two years ago, we had a clear vision: to equip health professionals and their teams with the transversal and digital skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape. What we didn’t fully anticipate was the speed at which artificial intelligence is evolving and the complexity of transforming theory into practice, especially in such a diverse, multi-country context.

The past year has been nothing short of turbulent — not in a negative sense, but in the real, human, and logistical challenges that come with developing and implementing a training program across six different healthcare systems, each with its own dynamics, structures, and constraints.

And yet, we have moved steadily from planning to implementation.

Thanks to the dedication of our consortium partners, national stakeholders, and the professionals on the ground, we have launched pilot training programs in nearly every participating country. Each pilot reflects both the common goals of H-PASS and the specific needs of local groups of health professionals.  From blended and online learning formats to interactive sessions on teamwork, communication, and digital tools, the training has taken shape — and is already creating impact as the first feedback of participants coming in.

This progress has been built step by step. Behind every milestone was a series of hard decisions, close collaboration, and continuous adaptation. And while there’s still a long road ahead, we are proud of how we’ve translated our core ideas into real-world learning experiences.

What comes next?

As we move into the next phase, our focus shifts toward a critical component of long-term impact: the development of training for “digital change agents.” These individuals — drawn from the ranks of our pilot training participants — will be equipped to lead, inspire, and sustain digital transformation within their local healthcare settings.

They are the future multipliers of H-PASS — the ones who will keep the momentum going long after the project officially ends.

Designing a program to support them is both a challenge and an opportunity. It requires not only technical content, but deep insight into leadership, change management, peer engagement, and communication. In many ways, it brings us full circle: from skills development to sustainable change.

I am proud of our collective resilience and creativity. We are not just delivering a training program — we are building a movement, grounded in collaboration and shared purpose.

To everyone who has contributed so far — thank you. You are the reason we’ve come this far. And to everyone following our journey — stay tuned. The best is yet to come.
