Individual Learning: Teleconsultation

Introducing a new teleconsultation (televisit) service

Somewhere in a distant country, a health service provider called Healthier Future Centre is about to launch a new service. A new law requires all healthcare providers to hold teleconsultations at least 4 hours a week. The recommended duration of a video teleconsultation is 30 minutes. There is no requirement as to which health professionals should conduct the teleconsultation, nor what services related to care should be covered by the teleconsultation. The new system should be in place within three months.

This solution is completely new for the health service provider. Until now, all visits have been face-to-face, and although the institution is very open to digital clinical solutions, the contact with patients has been done in the traditional way.

Task Outline:

How do you think healthcare workers will receive the news of this change? Please submit your answers to the following questions?

  1. What positive aspects can they foresee?
  2. What negative aspects can they identify?
  3. What do you think, will there be resistance among the health professionals?
  4. What can be the causes for resistance?
